standard recipe for optimal emarketing of your own
titles does not exist. There are resources and
specialized books on the Internet, some of which are
free, which you may find by running keywords searches on
emarketing, how to increase traffic, book promotion, how
to sell your book, how to promote your book, etc. There
are few basic methods through which you can promote your
book, regardless the country in which it is distributed:
1) It is good for an author to have a website with
content related to his or her book field or even a
website entirely dedicated to a book. On this website,
you may post a complete description of your book,
excerpts, a cover image and a link to its page on a
website that sells it (for example, Amazon). You can
also increase the traffic on your website through
traditional methods: listings in specialized
directories, inclusion in as many search engines as
possible, posting plain ads or banners on websites with
similar content, paid advertising campaigns on Google
(AdWords service), etc.
2) One very efficient method is the use of specialized
forums. For efficient maintenance, first create your own
database, as large as possible, containing the addresses
of the forums whose topics are related to your book
field and content. Use this database to keep a track of
the dates of postings of various messages. Messages may
be replies to a forum's questions or new threads, and
must contain references to your book. You may also
include in the message text direct links to a website
that sells your book, but you must do this with caution
because there is a risk that your messages will be
considered spam by a forum's administrators, who might
restrict your access. For example, for a book on
"How to become a successful writer", the
forums for promoting it can be found by doing searches
by keywords such as "author forum",
"literature forum" or "writer

3) Like forums, discussion groups (groups, newsgroups)
can be used to place links or to promote a book title.
The largest discussion groups can be found at Google,
Yahoo, and MSN. As with forums, you must search for
groups specializing in a field related to your book’s
content.
4) Promoting on Amazon and other similar websites is a
method through which you can grow the sales from these
websites. Once you have registered an account with
Amazon, you can use all the tools put at contributors'
disposal: reviews, comments, posting in discussion
forums, creating book lists, inserting tags and search
suggestions, etc. All these will direct potential buyers
to the page listing your book.
5) Direct emarketing (direct messages in which you
propose your title) to the administrators of websites
selling books can make them include your book in their
inventory or at least add an affiliate link on their
website. These websites can be (online bookstores) or
websites in the field of your book that have book
sections.
6) An efficient and still free method is promotion
through articles. There are websites specializing in
collecting articles, which are then distributed upon
request to websites that publish them in their space.
