   Author direct orders pricing

   Author's direct orders are priced at the production cost (printing plus shipping). Printing costs for author direct orders are noted in the tables in the paragraph titled POD printing fees. For shipping fees from and within the U.S.A., the author must contact us first for an exact calculation, which is based on quantity and shipping method.

   Additional marketing fees

   These fees are communicated to an author when his or her title becomes eligible for these services. At that time, the author’s participation in the cost of these services is also established.

   Retailer direct sales discount: 40% to 60% of list price

   Author compensation

   a) Sales through the aggregator

   Author's compensation is 65% of the net profit from POD sales. Net profit from the sale of a copy is calculated in this way: (1 - D) x P - C, where D is the distributor's discount, P is the list price, and C is the printing cost. Author's compensation is 65% x (45% x P - C). For an ebook, C = 0 and the author's compensation is 29.25% x P.

   b) Direct sales to retailers

   Author's compensation is 65% of the net profit from direct sales, that is 65% x [(1 - D) x P - C], where D is the retailer's discount, P is the list price, and C is the printing cost. For an ebook, C = 0 and the author's compensation is 65% x (1 - D) x P, where D is the retailer's discount.

   Example of calculation of author compensation:
   for a 250-page paperback with a 5 x 8 inch trim size, setup with a list price of US$29 (€21.63):
   - for sales through the aggregator: C = €1.42 + 250 x €0.0112 = €4.22. Author's compensation is 65% x (45% x P - C) = 65% x (45% x €21.63 - €4.22) = €3.583.
   - for direct sales to a retailer with a 60% discount: Author's compensation is 65% x [(1 - D) x P - C] = 65% x (40% x €21.63 - €4.22) = €2.88.

   What is the total cost of a POD title setup?

   The investment of the author in a new POD title is lower than a similar investment for an initial print through a traditional publishing house. In addition, it can be paid in three rates. Here are two examples: 

   1) a standard paperback with 120 pages and a 6 x 9 inch trim size, published under INFAROM imprint. The obligatory fees are: corrective verification - about €90; proof copy - €39; bookblock setup - €49; cover setup -€49; digital catalogue - €12. An optional fee is for a listing in the Ingram catalogue (recommended) - €59. In total, the investment (a one-time investment) for publishing that title is about €239 without advertising in the Ingram catalogue and €298 with this service. You can add to this amount the eventual initial expenses for translation and pre-press fees.
